Google has stated that due to the decline in usage of the Sitelinks Search Box, the visual element will thus be removed starting November 21, 2024. This change will be applied worldwide in all search results, countries and every language.

On Google’s official website for Developers, the announcement also includes that this change will not affect any site links visual element to rankings. It will also not be listed on the Search status dashboard. After this change takes effect and Google stops showing its sitebinks search box in Search, the next step is to take out the Search Console rich results report. Markups in the Rich Results Test will also no longer be highlighted.

Unsupported structured data will not cause any trouble in the Search nor will it bring about any issues relating to reports in the Search Console. This means that users do not need to remove sitelinks search box structure data from their websites. However, if they proceed to remove them, they should be wary that since site names contain a variation of WebSite structured data, it will thus continue to be supported.

Sitelinks Search Box: More on this visual element

The Sitelinks search box was introduced back in 2014. It was brought in to enable users to make site-specific searches right from Google’s own search results page. This visual element was viewable right above the sitelinks, especially when users search by a company name.

This tool by Google assisted users in finding super-specific site content much more easily. It also supported autocomplete and even let sites perform schema markup to integrate more efficiently in the search page.

The new Reddit Keyword Targeting features are a big game changer that lets advertisers reach target audiences more effectively. The platform is planning on revitalizing its advertising capabilities to improve performance and ad relevance.

Reddit rolled out this new feature which allows marketers to utilize specific keywords that target both the audience’s conversation placements and feeds. Previously before this update, keyword targeting was only limited to conversation placements. So with this new update, marketers will now be able to put their ads directly on Redditor’s conversations. This ensures that these ads reach more people especially when these ads are related to the content of the conversations.

Furthermore, when it comes to PPC advertisers, this targeted form of advertising will result in high chances of showing ads to those Redditors who may buy into these ads. Thus, Reddit gives advertisers the golden opportunity for ad placements.

Reddit Keyword Targeting: More on Keyword Targeting

Reddit has also introduced a new Dynamic Audience Expansion which works hand in hand with Reddit keyword targeting. This feature expands the audience without compromising brand relevance. Users who may potentially engage with the advertisers are identified by Reddit’s AI. The advertisers can put up the parameters initially which Reddit expands from that point on. Not only is it time effective, but it also allows advertisers to reach wider audiences on Reddit.

Reddit’s placement expansion is also another feature that advertisers should look after. This feature essentially figures out the best place to showcase the ads. The placement optimization ensures that ads will be placed in places that will drive high amounts of clicks and engagement.

Reddit’s AI Keyword Suggestion also helps advertisers find the newest and best keywords related to their ads. The keyword suggestions are based on trends and data current in the platform’s communities.

Google has recently announced that Store Ratings in Search Results are being expanded to more countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and India. Before this expansion, this tool was only limited to the United States.

This tool by Google helped merchants highlight customer reviews and feedback from the search results, which could bring in potential customers. The feature also gave great insight into different areas of the whole customer shopping experience. When users click on the store ratings in search results, they can view relevant information regarding various aspects such as the quality of the item, the company’s return and exchange policies, customer service, and more. This empowers the customers to be informed about their purchasing choices.

Merchants who are interested in participating in store ratings can apply to a free Google Customer Review program. Another way to participate is by gathering reviews from other independent review sites. Supposedly, if a merchant is already participating in the other two ways, their results would be approved to appear along with a store rating. Merchants with concerns or questions can inquire with Google Search Central Community.

Store Ratings in Search Results: More on this Google tool

Store Ratings in Search Results also allows businesses to compete in a more effective manner in the online market space that they exist in. This global expansion will help not only the merchants but also the customers. With this tool, the customers are given more transparency by the merchant, enhancing the whole shopping experience. These kinds of features also aid in forming stronger customer trust. Google’s expanding this feature to even more features is a testament to its cause to improve the online shopping experience.

Microsoft has announced a few Copilot updates related to Bing and its generative search capabilities. Bing has stated that it will be extending its generative search experience for complex queries.

These new Bing updates will be focused on managing informational queries. Bing has also provided examples having to do with the user asking the search what measures they can take to remove the background noise from their podcast recordings. The generative AI will help users with a more detailed explanation. Complex problems can also be solved. All in all, this new update targets queries that go beyond ‘surface-level results’.

Microsoft has also provided a short guide on how to use this new update. US users can type in Bing Genrative Search right into the search bar and queries will be presented for the users to choose from as a demo. The generative search capabilities can thus bring even more relevant and comprehensive answers that cover a wide range of topics.

Microsoft has explained that the Bing generative search experience blends both the foundation of search results from Bing with the power of LLMs and SLMs. It deeply understands the queries given by the users and reviews a multitude of sources. After reviewing multiple sources of information, Bing then matches the content and provides the search results in an AI layout to meet the needs of the users.

Bing has also stated that since this feature is in beta, users may have to go through longer loading times. The system may take more time to ensure complete accuracy with relevance which may increase in loading time. Bing’s generative search results will also include proper citations and links to the original source that they pulled based their results on.

Google has just recently changed up some of its spam policy documentation by putting in new details that have to do with the reputation and abuse of the site. This new update is targeted towards providing proper guidelines filled with set details to prevent misuse as well as user experience.

The new documentation provides more details and information about site reputation abuse. This new version explains what ‘first-party oversight’ means. This term refers to when the first-party hosting site directly produces one-of-a-kind content. They also do not employ any third-party sites focused on content redistribution with the goal of search ranking manipulation.

Google has also added a new detail that explains the consequences when Google’s spam guidelines have been violated. Google states that it would remove sections of a site from search results so users may have to be wary. Additionally, Google has also modified the ‘Thin affiliate pages’ into ‘Thin affiliation’ with an updated definition.

Spam Policy Documentation: More changes from this update

The updated spam policy documentation has been upgraded and brought in a more suitable introductory sentence. The upgraded introduction now begins with the spam definitions and continues from the definition. A new change regarding the word consolidation is also available.

The new update also expanded how the word ‘abuse’ is being used. In terms of SEO, abuse is used to refer to activities deceiving users as well as search engines. The updated version now utilises the given word around seventeen times. This update also provides suggestions on how to update a user’s content with the addition of more details and clarifying information that already exists.

The tech giant has also upgraded topic communication and conciseness. Phrases have become more concise to properly get the main point of the message across.

Google Search will officially integrate with the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine to show users the archived websites from Google’s search result page.

The Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine integration comes after Google removed the cache link feature on Google Search. However, this does not exactly address the complaints and concerns regarding the withdrawal of cache links from the Google Search results.

The Internet Archive started the Wayback Machine in the year 1996. The public release of this archive was launched later in 2001. It was co-founded by Bruce Giliat and Brewster Kahle to preserve digital copies of all discontinued websites on the internet. The Wayback Machine acts as a digital archive for the World Wide Web. This digital library saves is also designed to act as a website crawler. It downloads all public information and data available on web pages.

Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine: Its official integration with Google Search

The integration of the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine into Google Search is now rolling out to its users. With this new feature, archived websites will be shown in the Google Search results. This gives users more options to choose from. To see how this integration has taken place, users can click on the dots located right by every search result. After which, users have to click on the ‘About this Result’ option and then click on the ‘More About This Page’ option. Users will then be directed to an archived version of the webpage which shows how the website looks at different periods.

Google recognises the need for an internet library, especially for those involved in the research field. Being able to see how the websites looked in different eras gives people access to information and content that is not as easily accessible.

Google Trends Email subscription will be officially ending its service on October 29, 2024. After the closure of this service, users will no longer be receiving email updates of keywords on a timed interval.

Google emailed its users to let them know the service will be ending soon. This service was particularly popular with people working in digital marketing as they could easily receive the latest trends through email. But with the shutdown of this service, users will have to seek alternative methods.

Users will be given until the 29th of October to copy their subscriptions from the subscription page of Google Trends, in the case that they want a record of the previous content. Once the Google Trends Email Subscription ends, new trends cannot be created using the subscription page.

Google Trends Email Subscription: Alternatives to this service

As an alternative, users can turn to RSS feeds instead. Users who are subscribed to the RSS feed will be able to receive updates and trends. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. The basic premise of RSS is that it acts as a way for users to keep up with the current trends. It assists in fetching relevant information and news. An RSS feed serves as a content organiser as it collects various articles and other forms of content from a multitude of websites.

Users can also go the manual route by going to the site to check for such alerts. Users can also sign up to Google Trends Newsletter to get the real-time trends in their email inbox. However, users who decide to flock to the alternatives have to keep in mind that these substitutes will not perform the same as Google Trends email service, Some features may not be included as it was in the Google Trends Email Subscription.

Yelp sues Google as revealed by an official blog post by Yelp’s co-founder and CEO, Jeremy Stoppelman. The company officially filed an antitrust lawsuit against Google on 28th, 2024.

Google, termed by Stoppelman as the ‘largest information gatekeeping’ has been accused of creating a monopoly in local search services and local search advertising markets. Google is said to have been participating in ant-competitive activities ultimately leading to the decrease in search result quality. Not only has Google’s monopoly affected the quality of the search results, it has also stomped over its rivals just to increase the company’s power in the market.

Yelp has also gone on record saying that it has tried long and hard to fight against Google’s anti-competitive antics. The company states that it wants to make a more equal playing field for all other search services in the market to foster healthy competition. Yelp’s main goals are to ensure healthy competition and the protection of consumer choices. Additionally, other goalposts include the recovery of damages and to curb Google; ‘s anti-competitiveness.

Yelp Sues Google: Google’s Monopoly In Local Search Services

It has been reported that Google has recently been caught obtaining its monopoly through illegal means. This includes exclusive deals with several manufacturers, cell carriers, and browser creators. This means that Google controls where and what content the consumers are exposed to. This has consequently led to the rising monopolistic dominance of Google over the local search markets.

Google has allegedly manipulated results to enhance its local search results over its rivals. The tech giant has been accused of promoting sub-par quality results since it does not want consumers to leave the site and seek other alternative search services.

Google’s monopolistic tendencies have also affected businesses in other vertical search services. Yelp, the search service that has filed the lawsuit is one of Google’s affected rivals. Due to Google’s abuse of its dominance, ad revenue and traffic have drastically decreased, despite the other services providing higher quality in terms of local search results.

Google rolled out a new crawler named Google-CloudVertexBot and this bot aims to crawl for clients of a commercial nature who use Vertex AI.

The Google-CloudVertexBot added to Google’s crawler documentation serves to crawl sites only at the request of the site owners. This crawler also differentiates itself from other listed crawlers in Search Central that work with advertising or in by Google Search.

Google-CloudVertexBot Crawler: More on this crawler

It has been stated that in Vertex AI Agent Builder, different types of data stores have been contained. Furthermore, Google says a data store can contain a single data type. There are around six types of data and two types of site crawling. Advanced Website Indexing and Baisc Website Indexing are the two types of site crawling in Google-CloudVertexBot.

Furthermore, the Changelog also states that the Google-CloudVertexBot has been listed among Google crawlers to assist website owners in identifying ‘new crawler traffic’. The Google documentation also hints that crawlers do not index public websites. However, the changelog says otherwise. It states that website owners will be able to identify new crawler traffic.

Besides the new crawler introduction, Google recently launched its August 2024 core updates. The August 2024 Core updates are meant to foster functional content from smaller and independent publishers. The update has been stated to take a full month to roll out fully. It is targeted towards improving the search result quality by allowing people to look at ‘useful’ content.

Google has officially launched its August 2024 core updates and it is expected to take a full month to roll out fully. The tech giant has stated that the update will foster functional content from independent and smaller publishers.

The new core update has been developed to improve the search result quality by letting people view useful content. It also aims to show people content beyond those solely made to perform on the Search results.

John Mueller, a Google Search Advocate has stated that the recent core update considers the feedback from several creators from the past few months. Creators have been asked to make more meaningful content to make sure that the content published has quality. The March 2024 core update was the update before the Google August 2024 core update and it served to be the largest core update yet.

Google August 2024 Core Update: Ranking Bug Issues Resolved

Google confirmed that there was a ranking bug less than 24 hours after the update was released on 15 August. The company took over 4 days to resolve the issue. Mueller expressed that the team was not satisfied with the overall update so another update was rolled out to fix any inaccuracies.

The ranking bug affected a huge amount of search results. Users have been advised to wait a while to see where their site ranks. Moreover, the update stated that it would take a whole month to roll out thus rankings may also be affected.
