Meta has announced the debut of Edits, a new video editing app that will compete with ByteDance’s CapCut. This news follows the removal of CapCut from Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store owing to the current TikTok ban. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced the announcement on Threads, noting that the app will be available on iOS next month, followed by an Android version shortly thereafter.

Features Designed for Creators

Edits, designed with creators in mind, provide a slew of sophisticated tools to assist users in creating great films on their mobile devices. It has a high-quality camera, a dedicated inspiration tab, and an idea-tracking tab to help with the editing process. Users can also collaborate by sending draft versions to friends or collaborators. Following publication, creators can get performance insights directly on Instagram, making it easy to track interaction.

Mosseri stressed that Edits is primarily intended for creators, rather than casual video makers. He explained that the app’s purpose is to give the greatest tools for video fans, particularly as the video editing landscape changes.

This move is consistent with Meta’s strategy of developing similar goods to address market shortages. When TikTok was prohibited in India in 2020, Meta quickly launched Instagram Reels. Similarly, in 2023, Meta launched Threads, a competitor to text-based platforms such as X. Given CapCut’s unclear future, Edits allows makers to investigate an alternate video editing program.

The app’s emphasis on professional-level tools and insights makes it a formidable competitor in the video editing arena. As Meta continues to improve, Edits may become a go-to tool for creators looking for a smooth, collaborative video editing experience.

In addition to Edits, other competitors like a16z-backed Captions are adjusting their business models to attract users. As more tools enter the market, creators will have more options for video editing, ensuring a dynamic and competitive landscape.

Samsung is preparing to announce its highly anticipated Galaxy S25 series on January 22, at 10 a.m. PT. The ceremony will be live-streamed on Samsung’s official website and YouTube channel. This release follows Samsung’s highly anticipated CES 2025 press conference, which hinted at major things for its flagship smartphone portfolio. Preorders are currently available, including a $50 Samsung store credit for early reservations.

Galaxy S25 Series: A Look Ahead

The Galaxy S25 series will consist of three models: the Galaxy S25, the S25+, and the S25 Ultra. The S25 Ultra, in particular, will take over as the company’s most premium device, combining the greatest features of the Galaxy S and Note series. This is a significant shift as Samsung continues to optimize its product line.

Sleek design with a slimmer profile.

Early leaks and reports suggest that the Galaxy S25 will look identical to its predecessor. However, there will be a visible difference: a leaner design. The device’s profile might be decreased by 1 or 2 millimeters, making it more ergonomic and modern. This modest upgrade attempts to improve the overall user experience while preserving performance and functionality.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Chip.

One of the most significant changes expected for the Galaxy S25 is the incorporation of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite CPU. This powerful processor, which companies will launch in October 2024, is expected to deliver faster speeds, increased efficiency, and greater overall performance. While CPU modifications are prevalent in overseas markets. The Snapdragon 8 Elite is likely to become the standard in the United States.

Galaxy AI Integration

Samsung is expanding its AI capabilities with Galaxy AI, which is set to be a significant highlight of the Galaxy S25. This will help Samsung differentiate its devices from competitors that use Google’s Gemini AI, which will be available on all Android devices. Last year’s introduction of Circle to Search was a significant AI innovation that debuted on the Galaxy S24, and Samsung intends to expand on that momentum this year.

Enhanced Features and Leaks

As with any major Samsung announcement, leaks and renders offer information about the new devices. While specifics are still being revealed, case drawings indicate an improved build with updated proportions. Expect camera improvements, display quality, and general performance as the Galaxy S25 series seeks to set new standards for Android smartphones.

Get ready for January 22.

Mark your calendars for January 22, and get ready to witness the Galaxy S25 in all its magnificence. With a smaller design, powerful technology, and advanced AI features, Samsung’s forthcoming flagship phone is set to be a game changer. Whether you’re a tech aficionado or seeking an upgrade, the Galaxy S25 claims to have something exceptional for everyone. Watch the live stream and consider reserving your smartphone early for the exclusive $50 Samsung store credit.

Apple is facing a lawsuit over its decision to remove a system for detecting child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in iCloud pictures. The lawsuit claims that Apple’s inactivity is causing victims harm by enabling these damaging images to circulate further.

Background of the Lawsuit

The lawsuit is filed by a 27-year-old woman using a pseudonym. She alleges that Apple failed to carry out its 2021 plans to scan iCloud for CSAM. The woman, a victim of child sexual assault, claims that by failing to take action, Apple is forcing survivors to relive their pain. The photographs of her torture are still widely circulated online. She continues to receive alerts from law police about people being prosecuted with possessing them.

Apple’s Initial Plan and Backlash

In 2021, Apple announced plans to scan images stored in iCloud for known CSAM. To detect the material, this kind of technology would use digital signatures provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. However, the corporation abandoned this proposal after privacy groups expressed concerns. The system may open a backdoor for government spying, risking user security and privacy.

The Lawsuit’s Possible Effect

The lawsuit claims that Apple’s inability to fulfill its original pledge to eradicate CSAM hurts victims by encouraging the spread of unlawful content. Attorney James Marsh, who represents the woman, believes that up to 2,680 other victims may be eligible for compensation.

Apple’s response

Apple has yet to comment on the pending litigation. The business informed The New York Times that it is actively working on methods to handle CSAM while protecting user privacy.

Similar Legal Actions:

This complaint follows a similar one filed in August by a 9-year-old girl and her guardian accusing Apple of failing to resolve CSAM on iCloud. Apple’s handling of CSAM detection is still under scrutiny as the corporation balances security, privacy, and its role in combating online abuse.

Leaked details surrounding the upcoming Google Pixel 10 and Pixel 11 have been revealed, including the camera specs.

The Google Pixel 10, which is slated for a 2025 release, will be powered by the Tensor G5 SoC. This will allow ‘Post-capture Generative AI-Based Intuitive Video Editing of the Photos App’. This feature may even extend to YouTube Shorts.

Additionally, a new AI-powered feature called Speak-to-Tweak may be arriving in the new Pixel 10 for photo editing. Google has also been working on the Sketch-to-Image feature. This feature has been compared to the Samsung Galaxy AI. Furthermore, the Magic Mirror feature may also be making its debut, but there is no information out yet regarding what the feature does. The Tensor G5 may be able to locally support Stabe Diffusion models which may be used for the Pixel Studio app.

Google Pixel 10 and Pixel 11: Leaked Details of the Pixel 11

The upcoming Google Pixel 11 Pro, which is expected to hit the stores in 2026, will feature a “next-gen” telephoto camera. This camera will utilise the hardware in combination with the Pixel’s AI features for that impressive 100x zoom. This 100x zoom will be applicable for both videos and cameras. The Pixel 11’s Cinematic Blur will also be receiving a new update with 4K 30 FPS, along with a ‘Video Relight’ that switches between lighting conditions when taking videos indoors. The Cinematic Rendering Engine found in the Tensor G6’s processor decreases the power draw by blur recording by 40%.

The Pixel 11 will also feature the Ultra Low Light which has also been referred to as Night Sight. Although the Night Sight is an already existing feature, the processing is reliant on the cloud. However, with the Pixel 11, it will work on the device itself.

Vivo has recently announced the launch of the Funtouch OS 15. It is based on Android 15 and is currently available only as a beta version.

This new launch by Vivo is built on Android’s fluid system and certain elements that make the OS what it is. Vivo exchanges Android’s Fair Scheduling algorithm with its own Priority Scheduling model. It can be seen that Funtouch focuses more on computing power for the purpose of foreground processes. Results therefore result in a 15% increase in speed when a user opens an app, even when the system goes through overload.

There is also an impressive 40% compression speed increase. This is all due to the optimised zRAM memory compression algorithm. In addition, users will also be able to run their multiple apps smoothly without any lags. Vivo has also brought in Origin Animation which aids in improving the smoothness of animation and responsiveness of interactions. The Aqua Dynamic Effect also improves upon the system interactions coupled with animated effects making the while interacting feel more natural and smoother.

Funtouch OS 15: More Features and Device Availability

The Funtouch OS 15 comes with more than 3,800 revamped design elements which also include fonts, illustrations, system colours and more. The new Funtouch OS makes for a more minimalistic design and aesthetic. Furthermore, users have a wide range of customization options.

An AI-powered feature called the AI Image Lab enables users to enhance their photo quality automatically. Users can also remove a document’s shadows. The Ultra Game Mode has also introduced a sidebar that contains game tools, and a performance panel. The Game Small Window has also been added. The addition of the sidebar makes it easier and quicker to access apps and adjust settings.

The Funtouch OS 15 will be available on Vivo X Fold3 Pro, iQOO 12, and the X100 Series. These devices can commence the upgrade around October.

The new iPhone 16 lineup will not be coming with the iconic Apple Sticker as Apple moves towards a more environmentally conscious direction. This will affect only purchases made online or purchases that require a home delivery. Customers can still request the sticker while making a purchase in-store.

Third-party retailers such as Amazon will not have an Apple Sticker to include in the iPhone 16 box. The retail box for the iPhone 16 will hereby only contain the actual iPhone itself, a USB-C to USB-C cable and a SIM card ejector pin (For customers in India).

The removal of the stickers was previously done with the release of the M4 iPad Pro and the M2 iPad Air. This has most likely started Apple’s decision to remove the inclusion of the Apple sticker.

Apple Sticker Re.moval: Reasons behind the removal

This move by Apple comes as a result of Apple’s commitment towards obtaining a carbon-neutral status by the year 2030. It is one of Apple’s environmental strategies and the company is expected to include more environmentally friendly decisions in the future. Furthermore, Apple has stated that it would manufacture all its packaging in fibre. So this means that all packaging including that of the recently released iPhone 16 will have packaging made fully out of fibre.

The last iPhone model to have two Apple stickers was the iPhone 11. The iPhone 11 included the full set of standard accessories including a power adapter, USB cable, stickers and EarPods. Nowadays, an iPhone box lacks most of these amenities. Apple gradually committed these inclusions including the EarPods, adapters and now the stickers.

Apple’s decision to reduce the amount of in-box inclusions has been credited to the company’s move to reduce environmental impact. Other smartphone companies also followed in Apple’s footsteps by removing certain inclusions from the box.
